Minor Setbacks

Sorry for the long delay in postings but the busy holiday season got the best of me.  Over the holiday break on the time off from work we were able to make good progress on the farm house.  However, during the progress we found a couple major issues as we got deeper into the work.  Firstly, the roof was leaking in one spot and before we realized it and were able to fix it the drywall in one of the main rooms was completely soaked due to the onslought of rain that has been hitting us lately.  Add to that the lack of ventilation and mold began to grow on the drywall.  So we quickly removed the drywall from that section of the house and were able to pull down the affected ceiling tiles.  No real harm since the ceiling and drywall were planned to come down anyway, it just escalated the priority a little.   The roof has since been patched and we can move forward now.

The second issue was that the roof on the garage is truly end-of-life and is not repairable like origionally thought.  So we are in the process of getting estimates be will likely do a full replace rather than a repair.

Thanks for reading.  Will keep you posted and more pictures will be coming soon.

  1. Bummed that the roof on the garage couldn't be salvaged...but the more I think of it maybe we can get a bigger better roof and make the space above the garage incredible and fun! I'm thinking sky lights and fun times ahead!
Glad to get that nasty drywall down and ceiling down....thanks for getting that roof patched up! You are good honey!
Another realization for me is that this project is going to take a lot longer than I realized when we bought the place. Oh good times ahead! Looking forward to all the manual labor! (:
